It’s always a big ordeal to maintain the security of my wp site and I have not found a plugin/service that can keep my sites safe, detect file changes & remove them automatically until I found Shield Security.

This plugin literally does it all, if any file is changed or added it notifies you & with the scanner running every hour I never miss a malware injection.

It scans and monitors WordPress core files for changes, files for malware infections, and plugin & theme files for changes. THEN you can set it to AUTOMATICALLY delete these unrecognized files. What?!? How perfect is that!

I have been a user of Shield Pro for a month now and am incredibly happy with the experience. I’ve tried MANY products, but nothing quieted down the SPAM on our site in forms and forums like Shield! We gave it the 14-day free trial, and deactivated Akismet which didn’t really do the job.

During the trial, we were still getting light SPAM come through, mainly in wpforo that we use for support. I reached out to the Team on Shield about it, and to my amazement, they worked on integrating WPForo with their the software. That’s what I call customer service!

I tried tentatively with a single licence to test Shield Security out, without holding out much hope. I’ve not had much luck with security plugins. Even the really expensive ones don’t seem to play nicely with my server set up. Well I tried one site, it worked perfectly. Bought the 3 licences and installed on another 2 sites, still not convinced. They also work perfectly, even with slightly different set ups. The modules allow you to tweak each site for its own needs, which is a game changer for me. I just wish I’d of got this plugin earlier. Oh well, better late than never. I’ve just bought 10 licenses to keep me busy for the next few days installing on more client sites. Thanks for this plugin. 👍

2-year user, had a learning curve to set up this plugin, but plenty of explanations at the plugin site to initiate a user into its features (and there are many). If you are new to security plugins, you can take it slowly and learn from these articles — a useful mini-education that often saves me from having to guess. Otherwise once set up, Shield has worked flawlessly as far as I can see, so much so that, despite its depth, I rarely go in and look at settings (probably not good practice on my part, but still: what a relief) apart from reading the statistics in the admin screen and perusing the Monday email. It is almost as if Shield is hard-coded into my site and needs no attention, or very little. When another plugin changed and affected some of Shield’s behavior, I didn’t notice at first because I so rarely have to check Shield. Support at first could not resolve the issue but kept at it. Same with a different appeal earlier. They cannot anticipate every scenario but are willing to dig in and try to resolve things. A solid, well-supported security plugin that the author is constantly improving.`

After deciding to get the Pro version I’m very happy and feel my site is in safe hands.

Paul generously spent his time personally answering my questions on a Zoom call and has gone out of his way to provide a beta version of his plugin to address my needs.

Efficient plugin for a free plugin, it remains to go pro to benefit from all the tools.
It can be difficult to understand at the start, but if you look at the documentation carefully, you understand.
Please do not change the interface too often.

This Plugin is insane. You got a bunch of securtiy and help without needing much knowledge. There is a board, which shows you all risks and how to fix it.

Also the support is quick. I had a probleme and got an answer in less then an hour which fix this problem instantly.

WordPress is pretty unsafe by itself. Such a plguin is a musthave. In the free version is all you need. A must have!

I’ve been a user of Shield Security for a number of years, both the Pro and the Free versions. It’s become my go-to and my recommended WP Security plugin.

It has a number of killer features that beat out much of the competition — like being able to lockdown the plugin itself from changes with an additional password, and being able to lock down certain features within WP like installing/deleting/updating plugins/themes/etc (and those settings are very granular, for example you can block installing and deleting, but allow updating).

This is great for when you want or need to give access to other admins to a site, but you don’t want them to screw up security.

It’s known as “separation of privileges”, or “just in time administration” or “elevated privilege sessions” within security. Meaning that you don’t log into WP with all of your admin rights, and you have to “elevate” with the additional password to unlock the plugin/additional WP features.

For those of you used to Windows/Mac OS, this is like not using your admin account all the time, or when you do, having to click the extra button to agree to allow admin functions (and sometimes re-entering your password to do so). For those of you used to Linux/*nix systems, it’s like having to use sudo to allow admin functions.

All the other features you’d expect (IP blocking/firewall/malware scanning/etc – I won’t run through everything, I’ll let you check out the feature set yourself!) are there. Again, more comprehensively than a lot of other plugins.

There’s an active FB community too, where Shield staff contribute daily to provide support alongside other community members, and the Shield team seem absolutely committed to developing this plugin. I’ve seen it grow from strength to strength both with great ideas from the team themselves, but also from user and customer feedback.

The acid test, too… I’ve been able to protect many sites… A lot with automated interventions by Shield, but also by manually reviewing things like traffic logs right within the plugin, and blocking threats.

The final thing to mention is that it’s a lot more lightweight and efficient than other security plugins I’ve used!

I’ve been using Shield Security and Shield Security Pro from their early days several years ago, and watched the plugin go from a simple reliable tool to a fully featured Security Plugin Suite for WordPress.

Along the way the Support for the plugin has been excellent, though rarely needed.

There’s useful context sensitive help files easily available throughout the configuration pages and you can avail of anything from basic vanilla protection offered by a walk through setup wizard or tweak parameters all the way through to align security with how you administrate your WP Installs, locking down anything you don’t use or need.

The Pro product takes things to the next level allowing White Labelling, and the facility to replicate your preffered settings across multiple websites. As we run multiple websites for our clients we’ve used Shield on various Themes, and website service types including WooCommerce Sites and Booking Facilities.

Lately we’ve also seen integration with MainWP Dashboard, and PHP 7 has become the minimum bar of entry allowing us time to migrate older projects over from legacy PHP 5.x installs with plenty of warning up front from the Shield Support Newsletter.

The other great thing about this, and other plugins we enjoy using, is the moderated use of any kind of warnings in the dashboard. If we get a warning or an email from Shield it’s because it’s actually really important. That’s something we look for in Plugins, no dashboard spam.

All in all worth a look.

I have been using the pro plugin for some time and appreciate the continuous development to improve the UI of the plugin and implementing new features.
The support is committed to find even the strangest issue such as an out of sync server timestamp which made the google authenticator not work.

Shield is the only plugin you need for your WordPress website! I highly recommend that activate the pro version to benefit the highest security. The support team is so quick in responding the end mails and I’m 100% happy with this purchase.

I’ve been using Shield almost since they came out, and it blows away all the other plugins I’ve used. I’ve been using the Pro version on all my sites, but the free version is great as well. I’ve had a few issues here and there, but support is always on top of it.

After having had a website hacked and taken down twice despite having a security plugin, I discovered Shield Pro. I run 5 WordPress websites and Shield Pro works well. Each summery email I receive shows how Shield Pro has protected my sites.
Also the people at Shield are so helpful whenever a problem is encountered even if it’s not directly a shield issue.
I was recently blocked from accessing my site by WordPress. It was due to insufficient PHP memory set by the web host. Advised by Shield to contact host. Memory limits were increased by host and full access regained.

Started using this plugin on a few sites, in place of the more popular plugin. I like it for all the added options and how 2FA works. Does not seem to slow down sites like the leading plugin. Running it on 3 sites now with plans to implement on all 30 sites.

We used several other security related plugins early on. Shield is perfect for us and our go to plugin for security and has been for 4 or 5 years. It does what it is intended to do and I can always find support from them or peers anytime I have had a question. Thanks for an awesome product.

For me IP Bypass List does not always works with IPv6, dunno why but i’m not into IPv6.
Regardless I do like the plugin. I can recommend it!

I esp like the ability to hide/rename the wp-admin login page. Couldn’t even guess the # of millions of fake requests stopped just by this feature.

Shield Security has a ton of great options to improve the security of WordPress, and a lot of these can be found in other security plugins too. However, their point system is fairly unique from what I’ve seen. You get to control whether an action is ignored, logged, counts as a point, two points, or immediate block. Those options aren’t available for everything, but it’s an interesting way to let you customize how tight the security is.

Sometimes I still find it difficult to navigate all the settings modules. Many times I’ve had a specific settings in mind and I don’t know which module to click on, so I have to hunt around in different modules and tabs within those modules. But on the plus side, those settings and features are there… just need to find them. Worth it.

Well, not exactly. I check the stats once in a while. This is one part of my internet life I need not to worry about. Great support, too!

This plugin is the best free security plugin. It has a lot of features that help with security that other free plugins don’t have.

All of my clients have this plugin installed at their site. It’s not an option to opt-out.

The very few times I have had to connect with them via support has been above expectations in helping me with my dumb-dom. For folks who are having a hard time with support –

1.) check your junk or spam folders to make sure you’re not missing them.
2.) Hit the Facebook page if you don’t find it. They’re pretty quick to respond.

The documentation for support is good, but it’s not 100% (what support docs can be?)

I highly recommend them. They’re affordable for small businesses and do an excellent job.

I have really appreciated the Yubi-key two factor authentication feature of this plugin.
I also thought the initial setup wizard was really well done. The setup wizard made me feel like my site was in good hands.

OK, from seeing at least 50 plus lockouts a day to none in 6 hours: is pretty damned good, and it’s all due to this Plugin.

To originally combat the Hacker Bots that I was seeing in the “Limit Login Attempts Reloaded” logs, I ran a hapless plugin that changed your wp-login.php filename, and to a degree, (and for a while), it worked: then the MERD literally hit the fan, because the missing wp-login file was like a red rag to a bull to these mindless Bots.

From 10 Bots a day being locked out, it then went up to over 80 on some days.

Looking at the Apache Logs showed me that they were simply circumventing the renaming plugins efforts, by getting WordPress itself to resolve my new hidden login file.

It was almost like a sport to these foreign Bots, and they were foreign: mainly China Russia, and — Sweden and Poland of all places.

I had a PHP Log file plugin installed showing me the PHP error codes that the site was producing, any and all [submit] buttons were targets with the GETs and POSTs becoming more and more frenetic, as were any and all long WordPress page links: the resulting quick fired mess seemed to halt the server, with the next fast fired request showing the hidden login file.
Something that the Firefox browser does as well btw.

I think that it really was a sport, because the login names being used were complete nonsense, as were the weird passwords being presented. In the end, I limited the Hackers to one failed attempt with their IP being blocked for 48 hours, but it still didn’t stop them from hammering my sites login in their hordes.

So I started searching for a solution (out of the WordPress Box), and came across Shield Security, the free version does deter the Bots to a degree, and does indeed keep a few at bay, but it’s not until you pay for a subscription and get the Pro version, that you then really see a difference.

Especially after employing the paid options that turn on:-
Login Bots
Probing Bots and
Bot Behaviors, ..

With all of them ON and Immediately Block, or at least using the double offence counter, then the Bots aren’t even getting a chance to get near my site, especially the empty minded probing Botties, the (follow me tick box) is a simply wonderful Bot trap btw.

From 50 lockouts to ZERO, and in one day: the failing Bot drop-off graphs and the IP lockouts prove that the Hackers aren’t even getting near my login core files anymore.

I have to say, that it was a most amazing feeling of finally being back in control again.

Cons:
1.) The dashboard is very slow to refresh: (very!)
2.) It’s as complicated as hell to navigate, with a bewildering array of options.
2a.) But just focus on the (IP Blocking menu) and then the (Login Bots) sub menus if excess hackers are trying to get in, and is your main issue.
3.) Not sure if this is a con or a plus, but you have to get a [V2] reCaptcha license from Google, as [V3] (Doesn’t work? Isn’t supported?) Dunno!

** I already have [V3], and applying for another one was kinda surreal, but Google granted me another one no worries, and after copying the two strings into the Plugin input boxes — I now had a [I’m Human] tick box on my login form: I just hope that the rest of the Plugins that do use [V3] don’t kick off.

4.) The subscription is yearly, but at 30:00 (it’s not that expensive), nevertheless: it’s a subscription, and they bug me!

Pros:
1.) You can try out the Pro version for free.
2.) Without installing another Plugin, you can rename your login file from wp-login.php to whatever, thusly thwarting the hackers even further.
** But as noted above, doing this seems to make the roving Bots even more feral in nature, more aggressive once a hidden login 404 200 result is found.

2a.) Note of worth: the 404 missing file login messages sometimes aren’t even shown by the WordPress core 404 page, but are presented as a server side-error: which to my way of thinking is amazing, and btw — it’s only the missing login file that does it.

Epilogue: So, .. apart from 30:00 a year, then what do you have to lose? Well for a start those annoying pesky Hackers, this plugin really does kick them to touch. From that undeniable fact of free Bot space hanging in the air, then I have to say that I can heartily recommend this plugin, even though I do have to begrudgingly pay the yearly subscription costs that come with it, .. (But it is worth it.)

I would also like to show you my logs for the last two days, but can’t as there’s a restriction here on including images. There is however a full review of this Plugin on my site, with the glorious pictures of the Bot graphs center stage. BTW my Profile has my website included should you wish to be nosy. Main Menu [Primer] -> [Howtoo: kick out the hacker Bots.] It’s currently the first option, but that’ll change.

As a security product, this is easily the best available for WordPress. With an array of impressive settings, adaptive blocking that is better than some AI I have seen in my career, and a way to intrinsically manage the security from top to bottom knowing that it’s going to do the very job you expect it to, I personally wouldn’t unleash any WordPress instance without it.

Even if things don’t quite work the way they should, Paul and his team provide support which is second to none. I asked for a fix for a member plugin I am using, which Paul said would take a few days. I have tried multiple security plugins. This one is by far the most user friendly, with lots of videos and tutorials that are easy to understand. It also has a separate login for the security panel, which is good if you have multiple users. It also performs site health checks and walks you through the remedies for the deficiencies.

I’ve had in the pass some hacking on my different websites, since I added Shield protection, it works like a charm, all is peaceful. Beside that, you can parameters many many things in order to adjust to your needs.
And more, once I’ve had a trouble with Shield, the support was very responsive and attentive. Finally, the problem was not with Shield but with my browser. They asked me what to do, and everything came back to normal.
So I definitely advice Shield !

Been using Shield Pro for the last week. So far, I have found the support team very responsive and the software interface easy to use.

I have gone to great effort to find the best security period. That can be a daunting and impractical undertaking but after almost a year of testing I have settled on Shield Security. Not perfect, not simple, but simply the best I could find.

I have only found one feature that I believe is lacking. The ability to exclude IP’s from specified geographies. Since most of my sites focus on specific regions it would be nice to be able to exclude a whole world or hackers.

Easy to use and has so many features from a firewall to bad bot blocking, from rate limiting to log in security. I have deleted 2-3 login security plugins since Shield had all those features available – So I have saved space! I switched to the pro version within 2 days of using the free version. Their customer support, both free and premium, is fast and detailed. Really underrated plugin. Hope people start seeing Shield as one of the premier security plugins available today because it is!

I have been using Shield for a couple of years now. Previously, I had been using another of the “big” security plug-ins, but it became increasingly bloated and less effective over time. I tried Shield and have been VERY impressed with its functionality and with its support the few times that I have needed assistance. I can highly recommend this plug-in for security peace-of-mind and knowing I have a great support team should I need it. Great price for a great product.

The Shield Security plugin is just excellent. I started with the free version a few years ago. I upgraded to the paid version quite a while ago and I never regretted that decision. I have been using this plugin for quite a while. It has never disappointed me. It has been keeping all my sites safe and sound since I started using it. Shield security is solid and def. worth a look. Nice interface also.

We use Shield on our WordPress multisite and it is great. It gives us real peace of mind. When we have had queries they have been really helpful and even made modifications. They truly want it to be the best security plugin out there and as such are really responsive.

I would recommend this product to anyone running WordPress.

When you are disabled, it could be physical or learning disabled, we think about things a bit differently from others. I myself have learning disabilities and with that, I have this issue of being brutally honest. SO that is what people get.

I’ve been using this plugin for two years. Just renewed my Pro subscription and added it to two additional sites. As other reviewers have noted, with every update it gets better and better. It is full-featured, with excellent documentation provided through tool tips and links located next to almost every toggle.

When I first installed it on a brand new site, and was trying to get various plugins to play nicely together with one another, tech support was very helpful to me in identifying and sorting out a few conflicts. Subsequently, I have contacted the plugin authors for their assistance in using the plugin to address specific concerns and I received prompt, helpful responses.

Every time I discover a new feature it makes me even happier with my decision to install. For example, when I added the plugin to a new site (on a different host), I discovered that I could easily make my original site the “Master” site, instantly apply all of my settings from the Master site to the new one, and allow changes to the Master’s settings to automatically update the new site. Very convenient, and it worked flawlessly.

Highly recommended.

Been using Shield for a while now and I am 100% satisfied. I find it remarkable what it offers in the free version. Before installing anything I always read the 1 star comments. In this case I have to say to future users reading this, the few negative ratings here are not representative for the plugin. If people expect a security plugin to be automatically configured out of the box, they should never install one. It’s never fair to blame a vendor for not understanding the features or too lazy to read the basic as minimum.

I find the plugin easy to setup for the basic use, supplied with a neat collection of advanced functions. The log system is detailed and I have had login attempt’s enough to be happy I have some extra security. One thing I would warn about regarding the plugin – take care with the 2 factor email setting. If your smtp or other sendign solution breaks you can be in big problems, unless you know how to workaround it on your server. Don’t blame the plugin if that happens…

I’ve used both the free and paid-for versions of this plugin and it does the job well. When I have had problems the support has been quick to respond and resolve my issues.

I read a ton of security plugin reviews – I wanted something robust and full-featured, but also something that would be easy to set up and understand. I decided on Shield Pro based on positive reviews, and am very happy with my decision. Great daily emails for getting newer users like me up and running quickly with the key features. And then user-friendly links for in-depth explanations right next to every setting for when I’m ready to explore more advanced settings – so helpful (I wish all plugins would do this!) I use both the paid and free product and have found both easy to use and comprehensive. I have used other security products but after testing I prefer Shield.

I have the paid version on a multisite set up and it works seamlessly. The flexibility it offers is great, with a range of toggled options to choose security levels.

Never had any issues with our hosting service and when I have needed to remove it for testing purposes I have found it easy to remove all data on uninstall. Customer support is also sharp and very helpful.

I’ve tried a handful of other security plugins (including the heavyweight, prominent ones) and this is the best security plugin I’ve found so far.

It has effective spam protection and has helped me to mitigate brute-force login attempts on more than one occasion. The login security is top-notch and I love the plugin/theme/core file scanners that alert me when files are changed.

It’s very user-friendly and does a great job keeping my client’s websites secure. I install it on pretty much every WordPress site I build and I couldn’t be happier. It’s an easy 5 Star recommendation!

I tried several ones, this is the only one that it’s really a WAF, and easy to configure
I have a real reverse proxy/WAF based on nginx/naxsi and another WAF (modsecurity with OWASP conf and on paranoia level 3) embedded on apache. I also have an IPS, based on Suricata, with ETPRO rules. Still Shield Security was able to block some attack attempts that was not detected by the other security layers. This because it’s designed for working with WP, it’s not a generic WAF.

And I can tell you since I opened a “hack contest” on my site, with $300 of reward, and believe me when I tell you there’s a lot of attack attempts. With no success so far 🙂

But this plugin have also a lot of other features, it’s not only a WAF, auto update of WP core and plugins is a killing feature since outdated software is the first think to take care, half of the work is done when you software is up to date. IP block based on customizable number of “offences”, I love this feature.

OTP login: you can enable 2FA with email or google authenticator (any another method I don’t recall, yubi maybe)

I got the PRO version since it’s cheap and have some nice feature added, but the most important feature are already available for free. It’s the only plugin that do this.

Support is great, I had an issue that was caused for a bad conf I placed on PHP conf, they quickly and kindly helped to solve the issue

I’ve enjoyed using your plugin for two years or so, but I’ve just moved to Siteground for my hosting and I’m getting endless problems. Shield logs me out every couple of minutes and makes me log back in, even though I’m working on the site, so it is not that there’s no activity. I’ve deactivated all my plugins to isolate the cause and it is Shield.

Are you aware of this?

Siteground is very popular, so I’m hoping you’ve come across the problem and have a fix, please.

One of the definition of tool is an instrument that the end result is directly related with the way you use it.

If a finger suffers a hit from a hammer the tool can’t be blamed only the user itself and the way he was using it.

Shield Security Pro is like a tool, you have the out of the box configuration, which is really already something, but then you have in the Overview Area several ways that you can make it even more secure and also you can tweak it to your own needs.

It all depends on how you want to dive in it and what are your needs.

But for me all is covered, in a very intuitive way.

I tried other plugins so far, some disappointed me in terms of complexity, others in therms of costumer support and other in therms of overall value vs price.

I found in this plugin a good blend of easy to use, good costumer support and solid state tools to keep my website safe, tools that I can easily tweak to my own needs.

I believe that this will get even better with time.

I had already written my review, some time ago with the free version of the plugin and my opinion is now even better. I have 10 days since upgrade to PRO and I am truly in love with this plugin. In addition, I must say, customer service and PRO support is the best. When I have needed support, it was not because I had ‘real’ problems with the plugin, but because I need to learn how to use it and configure it. before shield security, I had installed Sucuri and some of the versions of limit login attempts that are out there on the internet. but for me they are already unnecessary since I have Shield security pro.

It is the first time after many many years that I actually feel totally safe. I wish I had discovered the plugin a lot earlier. The support is amazing because they use a Facebook group to sort out problems and you get helped by the man who developed it himself (Paul) if not served by the wonderful community manager you will find there too (Jelena) or any other member that also uses the plugin. Really great work all around, amazing support and also a fantastic community!

Pro is worth it’s money. You get all you can imagine.

I have been using this plugin since I started my blog over 6 months ago. I must say it is in the top 1% of the best security plugins I have ever used. There are many more options available than anything else out there. The options are just where you need them, the important places. Their firewall doesn’t miss a thing and their lock-down of the account is the best I’ve seen. I truly recommend spending the $12 for the pro addition, if for no other reason than for the professional help you get. Their support is excellent, answered quickly and to the point. $12 for a plugin of this caliber is a must, nothing any better for this price anywhere.
They just updated their user interface, making it even better, more user friendly than ever. If you need to protect your website or blog, this is a MUST part of it to add.
Their traffic module gives you all the information you need for investigating / blocking / adding anyone you may want.

I’ve been using Shield for over a year now. I manage about 20 instances of WordPress, plus some staging servers for each. And I now install Shield by default every time I get WP going. Shield is comprehensive in what it helps protect, its settings are easy to understand and configure, its protections are effective, and I’m completely happy with the peace of mind it offers once installed.

The free version is full-featured enough for many of our sites. But to top that off, to upgrade to pro at only $12/year is well worth the price for several of our sites that require an extra level of configuration or custom settings.

I run a number of private or not for profit sites where security is needed but budgets are tight, so Shield is the perfect antidote to WordFence. Easy to configure and the pro version is not a rip off.

I had it installed on 4 sites. Unfortunately I had to abandon it on 2 sites, through no fault of the vendor. Those two sites are hosted on my Synology NAS and, for some reason, they kept throwing 500 errors, preventing the GUI from loading. Shield support were fantastic jumping on the cases quickly and guiding me through some changes. And, when it became clear that the issue was outside their control and beyond my competence to fix, they immediately agreed to refund the 2 licences I had bought the previous day. You simply cannot ask for more from a vendor.

If I ever get to the bottom of the issue on the Synology NAS I will happily install Shield again

I have the pro version installed on 2 sites. One has been continually under attack. thanks to this plugin, I have been able to see where they are coming from, as well as stop all attempts except one probably due to an old theme no longer supported by it’s author.

I have had two issues I contacted support about, both were answered quickly and accurately. Also received help way beyond what one would expect for such a low-cost plugin.

Security is probably our most important issue on any WordPress site today. I cannot recommend the plugin highly enough. You just need to get it!

I tried the free version for approximately one year. After which I was more that satisfied so, attempted to try out the Pro shield version. I was so impressed with the Pro, I purchased it for all five websites.

I found shield pro to be very easy to setup & operate, even for a novice like me. The platform uses colour codes to clarify where vulnerability lies within your site thus,indicates where you need to buckle-up to reduce vulnerability.

Further, I found customer support to be an excellent service since, was not sure about a few things thus, got an instant reply even on Weekends.

I would advise all new comers on WordPress to have this essential piece of platform as it is very easy to manage & function, with excellent support.

I am using this great plugin and recommend it to anybody who has a site to protect.

I had a problem with an error generated by the Shield plugin – the support guys at OneDollarPlugin did a fantastic job of troubleshooting. They found the cause of the error to be bad code in another plugin, and they added some code to prevent the bad other plugin breaking shield. Nice work. Highly recommended.

9 months since installed (after my web site got hacked) and so far so good, all attacks pushed back successfully.

Paul and Jelena have always provided very responsive support to my emails.

What was impressive is the very fast workaround provided in his plugin to counter a conflict I had with another plugin using a bugged very old version of Twig and not checking whether the classes already existed or had already been declared (meanwhile, that other plugin company is yet to reply to my ticket !)

Well worth the install of Shield Pro. Paul’s support ranks amongst the top 5 ever encountered in my years of dealing with multiple software companies and stores.

If you’ve ever had ransomware or scammers hack into WordPress (they’re clever aren’t they!) you’ll be thankful for all the means to hold them at bay using this plugin. You can hide the wp-admin login and rename it, put a passcode on changing the security settings and so much more. It runs a daily security check. What a relief to find a strong padlock to prevent access by hackers. Of course if they get access to your main CPanel or whatever, they can turn it off in one easy way, but that is nothing to do with this plugin. What a relief to find a security shield: thanks for providing it. It’s on every one of my sites now. Having had the Cyber Crime Police detectives involved I’ve done everything possible to prevent further attacks succeeding. This plugin is an excellent resource.

This plugin is awesome! Very powerful All-in-one security solution. Provide almost everything you need to become safe and secure. The Firewall caught too many Hack attempts with base64 codes and other malicious visits targeting my Jodyshop.com website.

Of course, I bought the Pro version once I found it very useful (and cheap)! the pro feature is really very handy and gives more power.

I saw one bad review; user said it was difficult or impossible to use. IT IS A COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY PLUGIN with LOTS of settings. Of course it can be difficult, but the default settings let you use it without much thought (or experience). What this software does can be overwhelming to the uninitiated, however, that being said, it is designed to guide you through the setup and use of the software and it just works. I can not recommend this highly enough.

Seriously. There are plugins out there that are charging fifty dollars for a couple of lines of code. But this one… holy crap! This is the first plugin I’ve purchased. And it’s a subscription plugin at that! The reality is that the OneDollarPlugin team provides an immense amount value for a measley dollar a month. The plugin works a dream, and adds captcha to the back-end login area of my site that would help with bot hacks.

It’s easy to use WordPress.org, including easy to perform updates. I have always found Drupal a pain with updates, so I try to avoid it. WordPress on the other hand is great.

It works well for the needs of my client’s website security by blocking login attempts and preventing unwanted interaction from bots.

Still love the plugin and the work being done in such a grounded manner.

After getting my website hacked I searched around for a good security option. Someone suggested shield and I’m glad they did! The plugin is affordable, fairly easy to install, and works awesome! I’ve had no issues with hackers since.
I did have a little problem getting kicked out and not being able to log on at first, turns out it was other conflicting plugins. The customer service was amazing and helped me work out exactly what was wrong, giving me clear instructions on how to fix it. I’m very impressed! Love it! Definitely, consider Sheild as an option if you need WordPress security!

First of all it is very well documented and for newbies like me this is a plus! it guides you step by step to configure it and even if you are not sure about turning on an option you can always read a very good explanation of this option to decide if you wanted or not. The funny thing about high quality plugins is that they just work. You install and forget them. Shield gives you a ton of options but it does a lot of thinking for you so it’s basically a plug and play plugin. Highly recommended.
And when I needed to reach out to their customer support lately they responded swiftly and professionally. But not only that – the problem I experienced was not caused by Shield but by the caching mechanism on my host – and yet the response I got was no your usual “contact your hosting provider” but a thorough analysis of what might be happening, references and explanations. So when I did contact my host I was armed with facts and the issue was solved in no time.
Which didn’t stop the Shield guys to email me in the meantime to ask “how did it go with your host?”.
This is the kind of partner you want to have to run your business.

After dumping all of my other security plugins (one failure after another), I was up and active with Shield in no more than ten minutes. The reason? The options and detailed configurations are written in a language even old business guys like me can understand.

I was also pleased to wake up today to a notification of a suspicious file on my system. I was happy because The Shield did its job and left me with an entire day to focus on my clients.

If you are looking for a security plugin, a firewall, a way to prevent users to trash their own site, a astonishing support, than you’re in the right place. Shield Security just delivers all that and even more.

We had an issue related with the plugin and our website and after banging my head to the wall I contacted support. Honestly I should have done it in the first place because I would save my self from wasting time and gray cells.

Good Plugin

Great product with a good support team.

As a marketing agency manager I have tried most security plugins for WordPress, some suck, some will protect you from basic hacking but not pros, some work well but are a pain in the a$$ to maintain. Then there is Shield!

You install it, activate it, run through the simple setup wizard and go get a beer, it just works! The ONLY setting I change is the default User settings, because they are set to allow plugins like Jetpack to access the website remotely, which we never use, so I turn off that option and all finished.

Highly recommended, the free version will be enough for most small websites, but we will be upgrading to Pro just to encourage the developers to keep going!

Great security plugin. It’s better than Itheme security and wordfence. Lightweight does not hog system resources. I am considering to get the pro version soon.

I’ve recently installed Shield and so far I’m pretty happy with it. IMHO a great addition to the security bundle for every wp site.

I have been using Simple Custom CSS plugin for many years. It is stable, easy and I love that it colour codes to show your errors. Absolutely five stars for this one!

I am not an expert in online security and my knowledge of coding is very limited (close to non-existent) but I have been blogging for five years and am fully aware of the risks of running a blog or website, and how easily our security can be breached.
After some external attempts at logging into my account, I decided to check what was available and came across Shield Security. It was easy to install and easy to customize, even at my basic level of expertise. I also signed for the newsletters and have found them full of up-to-date information that helps me keep on top of things.

So far so good. I had chosen Shield Security for its lots of functionalities. I was a bit nervous if it would be difficult to configure. But on the contrary, I have found really simple and easy to handle control panel. As much as I understand it is a complete security solution. And I am hapy to use it. Great little plugin, easy to use and does exactly what it says on the tin. Went from an “F” rating on securityheaders.io to a “B” straight out the box and to an “A” rating with very minimal tweaks.

Be interested to know if you’re looking to implement the ‘Strict-Transport-Security’ header option as it’s the only thing left being flagged on the above-mentioned site? I know there are other plugins that will achieve this but be nice to have it all-in-one…

As a non-techie who has been hacked I like the way this plugin protects my site. It was easy to set up and works well so far.

This is not a paid review. You can simply install it then remove it if you disagree, however, this is one of the most useful, unrestricted and intuitive defense WordPress plugins I’ve used. Everything is clearly defined, the support is quick and most important of all, their documentation is on point with no confusing steps.

Works seamless and gives me massive peace of mind, especially after a bunch of bogus login attempts by who knows who. Just works.

I run a few WP sites and have tried several spam and security plugins. This one saved my bum. In the span of 1 year I had 2 people associated with my sites in viral news. (this can happen to you too!) One was a member of a non-profit group, and the other a friend I barter services with. The attacks from viral new stories can be relentless & frustrating, but after the first round I installed this plug in and it solved all my issues. The second I loaded this plug in imminently and I had no issues. I just loaded it on my personal multi site install and it works wonderfully. The developer updates often and the plug in is easy to use. I would give 6 stars if I could.

A great plugin with helpful, capable support. This is the plugin that’s given me the least amount of trouble yet. I haven’t gotten hacked or otherwise compromised since, which is a good sign. I can’t say it’s solely due to this plugin, because we also switched servers and to SSL. But I haven’t had any issues with it and it’s easy enough to understand and use.

Tried this plug-in after seeing a review of it and haven’t looked back since. Great features with minimal overhead on my hosting resources.

What I really like about this plugin and the project is the continued desire by the developers to increase the communities security.

They directly ask users to get involved and raise awareness. They respond to support tickets at a higher rate than a lot of other teams providing very popular plugins which even have premium editions.

This team is providing support. That is key and we should show great support for that. So if from now on when I choose a security plugin it will be Guard.

Impressive system, I love the login two factor authentications and the automatic plugin upgrades. Uses low resources, ideal for a shared hosting where you have to cope with sluggish bandwidth as it will not slow down your web site.

Tested this on a clients site because WordFence had become terribly intrusive. This plugin is amazingly simple! And you don’t get hundreds of emails any time a hacker passes gas and no 3 million messages on security, scans and other stuff when you login either. Love it’s simplicity!

As a developer and a website builder of over 200 websites, I’ve tested several security plugins, and I’m happy to say that I truly found the one – a powerful security solution and yet, so simple to configure and manage.

I’ve been using Shield since I first started using WP around 6 years ago. Security is my least favourite part of WP and the aspect that I find most confusing when trying to compare products. I did have a moan about Shield a couple of years ago when it didn’t pick up malware during a scan but I know people who were using a premium, expensive security plugin that also didn’t spot the malware (although another free plugin did in my case). However, I still trust Shield and have continued to use it on all my sites. The devs have done an amazing job with constant innovation and I’m amazed at what they offer for free. Their pro plugin is so unbelievably well priced that I bought a few licenses just to support them. I’d encourage anyone reading to go and buy even just one pro license to show your support. They deserve it 🙂

I am so elated that I found this plugin. The configurations are thorough and well defined. So thorough that I got tripped up a couple of times simply by not remembering how thorough. For Instance: If you change the login.php (which is one of the many security features of this plugin) remember if you have to turn it off or reset it that you will have to go back to using your original login or login.php to get back into your admin to address any issues. For Instance again; I actually got locked out by an invalid Google API and eventually a malware plugin I was using. However, the resolutions for both of my lock-out issues was handled with the ease of simply creating the files that either turned off or reset the plugin, it was so simple. No going into htaccess, or any other files that you might not be comfortably familiar with and possibly making a mess. Website security is everyone’s concern, and I feel real confident about the success of this plugin. I have implemented the plugin badge on my site so my visitors will feel the same.

I am impressed with the ease at which I could configure the security of my wordpress site with this tool. I especially liked the 2-factor Auth support, specifically the support for hardware tokens (yubikey) was what set this plugin apart for me. I am new to wordpress, but not to internet security so I really can see the effort that has been put into Shield Security.

I understand there is really no way to make your site be immune to hacking or spam, but this plugin really helps lower your attack surface. So now I just have to worry about my site content, and not the constant threat of bad actors.

The options are great, both in quality and quantity. There is a very interesting combination of features. It’s a true “all in one”. Because of Shield Security, I deleted 3 other plugins:

-My previous security plugin (wich consumed a lot of resources)
-The automatic updates plugin
-The 2 factor authentication plugin

There was a big clean in my databases, and besides that, this one is a light weight plugin. Besides the great protection it offers, there was also a significant improvement in my loading times in both my websites.

It has secured all my WordPress sites after some minor hack attacks – Fandabidozi! (that’s Scottish for great!)

It has a lot of different options. Hard to know which are useful vs. which are obscure, but I feel a lot happier having Shield WordPress Security in place. It’s done no harm that I know of and I’m sure has done good.

I went with this plugin because it provided the most amount of features for free in one plugin, without the need for a premium subscription. It seems to be working well, and the user interface is easy to understand even for a novice.

The more I’ve learnt about WordPress security the more I’ve been tempted to retreat to an underground bunker wearing a tinfoil hat. Like its Marvel namesake this plugin is a bunch of kick ass enforcers working as a team. It offers advice on what settings you should use and which settings you may have conflicts with depending on your set up. The more you learn you the more you can tailor it to your needs. Oh and it’s all free. There’s an upsell of backups and premium support but all the security features are there whether you go premium or not. Highly recommened.

On all of my sites I have traditionally used a combination of plugins to enforce security and hack protection. Recently I’ve been testing out Shield to see if I could replace all/most of my traditional plugins with just Shield.

So far, things are going great and the administration of Shield seems to be quite polished. I’m giving it a 5 star rating now because it is doing what I hoped, and doing it cleanly.

I came from Wordfence (they’ve changed their focus), and was looking for a good security plug-in that woudl also allow two-step-authentication (2FA) as an extra security measure during login. Enter Shield: So far it’s worked completely worry-free and 2FA works great with google authenticator. Highly recommended.
